Farewell to Carol Schuck Scheiber, publications editor
The NRVC wishes Carol Schuck Scheiber well as she begins her retirement August 1 after some three decades in vocation publishing. Carol began editing VISION Vocation Guide in its infancy. In 1998, she became the NRVC publications editor, taking the helm of HORIZON, the newsletter, and other communications projects. Under her leadership, HORIZON underwent two redesigns and earned numerous awards from the Catholic Media Association.
"It has been my pleasure and privilege to work with and learn from some of the finest ministers in the church. I hope to carry forward your beautiful spirit and deep belief in religious life," says Carol.
Jesús Leyva has taken on the role of NRVC communications director, which includes producing NRVC's publications.

Sign up for the Intercultural Assessment workshop this fall
The NRVC is offering the workshop "Candidate Assessment Through the Lens of Interculturality," by Crystal Taylor-Dietz, Psy.D. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m in the following locations:
September 6, San Antonio, TX
October 18, Frankfort, IL
The workshop will explore how to assess candidates who come from a different culture, taking into account distinct norms and expressions, possible trauma, etc. One focus will be on how to respectfully gather information without stereotyping, generalizing, or minimizing behaviors of concern. The workshop will also explore possible blind spots and biases that can creep into assessment.
Thanks to a grant from the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, this workshop is available to NRVC members and their community members for only $25. Learn more and register here.

Connect with youth at NCYC this November
Mark your calendars to promote vocations at the National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC) in Indianapolis November 20-22. NCYC is a three-day immersive experience of prayer, community, evangelization, and service sponsored by the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry (NFCYM). Over 10,000 high school teens, parents, and youth ministers from across the country will gather at the Indiana Convention Center and Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis around the theme, "I Am | Yo Soy."
In collaboration with NFCYM, the NRVC invites its members to celebrate the Catholic faith and promote vocations by volunteering in its T-shirt swap in the Interactive Exhibit Hall. Details about the conference and the T-shirt swap can be found here.

I am NRVC: Sister Carolyn Martin, L.S.P.
Sister Carolyn Martin, L.S.P. was a carefree teenager when she first met her community, the Little Sisters of the Poor, by happenstance. "They were happy, genuinely happy," she recounts on a 2016 Moth Radio Hour segment, "I remember thinking, I see people racing all around frantically looking for happiness and these women in their poverty and simplicity, they have it!" That hooked her, and she has now been with her community for 50+ years. Read more...
